5 Reasons Why You Are Not Losing Weight on a Ketogenic Diet

When in ketosis, the body burns fat and uses energy efficiently. This process makes the keto diet an ideal choice for people who are looking for an easy way to lose weight. However, if you follow this diet and are not losing weight, chances are you are not in ketosis. Below are some common reasons for not lose weight on the ketogenic diet.

1. Reach ketosis

Generally, most people in the ketone diet does not lose weight because they do not manage to ketosis. And the reason they fail to ketosis is that they do not reduce their consumption of carbohydrates. According to experts, your carbohydrate intake should be only 5 to 10% of your calorie intake.

Most ketone diets require dieters to reduce at least 20 grams of carbohydrates per day. And that is why they may not be able to burn fat. You can buy a test kit at home and use test strips to see if your urine contains ketones. If the test result is positive, you are in ketosis.

2. Eat lots of protein

Most low-carb diets only allow a certain amount of protein. If you think a keto diet refers to a high protein, diet low in carbohydrates, you should think again. The thing is that this type of diet can not help you achieve ketosis your body can not break down the excessive amount of protein to get amino acids, and convert amino acids into sugar.

When a keto diet, you get your calories from fat. And the fat must be at least 55% of your calorie intake.

4. Eating maltitol

Usually sugar alcohols are fine for people to ketone diet. They offer the sweetness, but do not increase the number of carbohydrates in your body. But it is important to keep in mind that certain types of alcohols contain carbohydrates.

For example, maltitol is a type that is not allowed on this diet low in carbohydrates. Technically, it is the low GI sugar but has an impact on your blood sugar in the blood. So it can prevent you from reaching ketosis.

5. Take too many calories

If you eat more calories than you burn, you will not be able to lose those extra pounds. In fact, if you consume a lot of calories, you can even gain fat if you have reached ketosis.

Foods that contain a lot of fat has more calories compared to foods that are high in protein and carbohydrates. It is therefore important that you monitor the calories you consume on a daily basis. If you stick to a balanced diet, you can achieve your goals.
